Google Docs

Google Docs is an online office site, similar to Microsoft Office, but one that runs as a web apps and thus all you need is a browser and an Internet connection to use Google Docs. -Amit Agarwal
Google Docs has its features like Microsoft Office. Users can easily adopt to its environment and functions since all of us are used to do our paper works in Microsoft office. The great advantage of this web application is that your files and documents would be stored in cloud. You can also upload your folder from your drive to  the cloud. Now, your storage of files would be bigger enough to hold all your files. You can also share your files to everyone (if you need to do this) or just make it private.
Google Docs has a lot of features that made me amazed. That is Google docs can view .zip files and .rar files online, it would e a great help for all the users that tend to compress their files to fit in to their emails. Now we don't need to download this compressed files in order to view it. We can now also drag and drop our files from our computer to the web ( For Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox ).
Google docs can also be used at the same time with Microsoft word, so that users can work with or without internet.
In my opinion, the creation of Google Docs is really a big help for all of us. We can use it whenever and wherever we want. It would be  an advantage for the users that doesn't have any Microsoft Word in their computers. They do not need to purchase that software just to edit their documents or files.

Open Source | Proprietary Software : For the future!

Open source, as I understood in our debate last Monday, it should be free, source code is available and everyone can modify its codes according on what they want and need. Open source lets programmers or users to freely distribute this software. Open Source is important to Education and also to offices. It gives more benefits in businesses. It has a lot of advantage than proprietary software. But there's also an advantage to open source, the time of releasing updated software is unstable. There is no exact time, when and where it would release its updated software.
As we debated about the open source awareness test, we had agreed in some of the question but most of the time we have different ideas that come up to our minds. Sharing different thoughts or ideas about open source helped us to widen our understanding and make us think more on what would be the best for us. The ideas that we share was also criticized by our classmates that make us defend our answers and make them satisfied to our answers. It was a bit nervous being in front of the class but as we go along nervousness disappears and understanding arises.
For me, Open Source or Proprietary Software can be use by every one of us. No one can tell what the best is. We cannot tell everyone to use open source software rather than proprietary software. But there’s no harm in trying. We should let ourselves explore to the new trends in our technology. It can help us grow and experience a lot that we can treasure the most. Open Source can be useful for us in the next future years at the same time with proprietary software.

REVOLUTION OS

Windows has been our only operating system that can be available for our computers in the past years until a group of hackers, especially Richard Stallman, had come up with an idea to create another operating system that can be shared to anyone. It was Richard Stallman was the founder of the free software movement. In able to create the GNU project he had built the free software movement and without his works, Linux and Open Source will not evolve from what they are right now.
According to Linus Torvalds, an Operating System is described as cannot be seen by the users and never supposes to see it. Nobody really use an operating system and people use programs on their computers and the only purpose of an operating system was to help those programs to run. It is a great challenge to them to create their own operating system because the programmers will start to scratch. They cannot use Unix to their project because it was proprietary and forbidden to share Unix. In creating an operating system, this needs lots of program like kernel that allocates resources to all other programs, compiler that translates from the source codes that a programmer can understand into numbers that the computer can understand. There are lots of programs must be needed to have a complete system.
At first Linux was called as "free software" that has been misinterpreted by the users. They intend that this software is just free or cheap software and this could not have the quality of the other. All of the concern people had the meeting to change the term and since they really want to tell that in this system they want to be open and the source code was available to everyone. It was later became "open source". The Open Source Definition written by Bruce Perens indicates nine rights and these were that the Linux had been use to define its term Open Source.  On October 7,1999, VA Linux Systems filed with the S.E.C. for its Initial Public Offering and it was on December 9,1999 VA Linux had begin to trade its stock.
Linux and the Open Source had been a great influence in our technology. Now programmers can learn more and explore new things to it. In fact having an operating system that is open source is a great advantage to the other OS’s. Now, there’s the freedom to share and redistribute programs that would be modified more for better results. Open source program should be used in school and other institution in order to have a better knowledge in operating systems and other open source programs.
